Charles Chen
Core Founder & Founder, Tencent Holdings Limited, Chen Yidan Foundation


As a pioneer in internet philanthropy, Charles is the Core Founder of internet giant Tencent and the Founder of Chen Yidan Foundation. Previously he was the Chief Administration Officer of Tencent, overseeing the company’s administration, legal affairs, human resources and charity fund. In 2006, he launched the first charity foundation of China’s internet industry Tencent Charity Fund, in which he remains the Honorary Chairman.

Charles is dedicated to philanthropy on education in his personal capacity. In 2009, he founded the non-profit private tertiary institute Wuhan College in Mainland China, a move that pioneered the development of non-private universities in the country. In 2013, he took other education philanthropy and launched the Chen Yidan Foundation, with the aim of preserving and promoting traditional Chinese culture and education, and promoting social harmony and the advancement of mankind. He was the first internet entrepreneur recognized by China Charity Award.

Charles received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Chemistry from Shenzhen University and a Master of Law Degree in Economic Law from Nanjing University.
