Family businesses are an integral part of Asian economies, driving growth and wealth creation in the region. Nextgen refers to the next generation of family business successors. This small but powerful community is increasingly socially aware and dedicated to delivering social good. As each new generation comes of age, issues relating to family business succession, sustainable practice implementation and social capital maximization become more pertinent than ever. Learning how to bridge the gap between nextgen personal interests with those of their family’s business can be a complex process, which requires cross-generational discussion.
Providing nextgen with the tools to merge these personal interests with the strengths of the parents’ generation unlocks abundant potential. Moreover, creating a community in which nextgen can come together to share thoughts and capabilities regarding social impact will produce a resource-rick network unlike ever before. This plenary session explores the role of nextgen in catalyzing social impact initiatives, with panelists discussing and debating the following questions:
Key Takeaways for Audience
- How are the nextgen engaged in sustainability and social impact initiatives?
- Social capital represents a key component of family business sustainability; how to align the nextgen’s interest in social impact towards family succession?
- How can an influential and resource-rich network of like-minded nextgen peers collaborate and learn together to pursue their goals?
